WHY IS SYNTHETIC INSULATION BETTER FOR WORK JACKETS?
Fur. Goose down. Wool. There are lots of natural materials used to help keep us warm. But when it comes to insulation that can handle the types of days that start before the sun comes up and end after it goes down, you need something that can’t be found in nature.
Synthetic insulation is lighter, tougher and warmer than natural options.
The Basics of Insulation Technology
All insulation works the same way – it creates air pockets that trap heat next to your body. It also prevents cold air from getting through the barrier to your skin.
Synthetic insulation in jackets is made of tiny fibers that are great at forming tiny pockets for trapping air. Not only is it just as good as natural insulation materials at providing warmth, synthetic insulation lasts longer – through tough days, long nights and more washes.
Why Synthetic Insulation Replaced Down Insulation
The many talented engineers and scientists who developed synthetic insulation designed it to address a couple of the key shortcomings of down. Chief among those is that, as great as down can be, it becomes dramatically less effective when it gets wet. Synthetic insulation also has a couple of other advantages over down—namely, that it’s more cost-effective as well as being naturally hypoallergenic.
Water-resistant coatings on the jacket shell or on the down itself can help, but synthetic insulation is still the gold standard for moisture-resistant insulation technology. So what does this all mean? If you think you’ll be encountering wet weather or working in an environment with lots of precipitation, synthetic insulation technology is your best friend.
Innovation in Insulation from RefrigiWear
RefrigiWear creates industrial-strength insulated work jackets for people who can’t be slowed down by the cold.
We've developed several proprietary insulation blends to deliver maximum warmth with minimal weight or added bulk, such as RefrigiFill™ and AirBlaze® insulation.
RefrigiFill™ Insulation
You'll find RefrigiFill™ in our iconic line of Iron-Tuff® jackets, vests, bib overalls and coveralls that are comfort rated for protection and warmth down to -50°F. RefrigiFill™ polyester insulation delivers maximum durability and stands up to hard use season after season. In fact, it's so durable that Iron-Tuff® gear was used by the toughest workers in the construction of the Trans-Alaska pipeline. If this gear can keep people warm on the frozen turndra, it can definitely keep you warm at on the job.
AirBlaze® Insulation
Pound for pound, AirBlaze® insulation is 40% lighter but still just as warm as traditional insulations. That means you can get the same protection at almost half the weight. What does that mean for work? You aren’t weighed down by heavy gear and don’t have to worry about bulk interfering with your job. Since AirBlaze® insulation is lighter while providing the same protection, you get a more streamlined fit from the gear you’re wearing. Less bulk and less weight mean you can work without fatigue or hindered movement. AirBlaze® gives you better performance and better protection so you can be at the top of your game.
